HISTORY
HISTORY
The Crowder church of Christ was established in the home of the local blacksmith, Jim Smith, in October of 1931. Later, the congregation rented space from the Masonic Lodge, meeting on the second floor of the Bush Building, which is still standing at the southwest corner of Bond Street and the old Highway 69. A building was later constructed on the southeast corner of 7th & Highway 69, but when Lake Eufaula was constructed in the early 1960's, the church was paid for its property and used those funds to build a concrete-block structure at 3rd & B Streets. Sometime later, more classrooms were added, and this building now serves as our Education, Fellowship and Benevolence Center.
A need for additional space prompted the purchase of more property, and the construction of a new auditorium, more classrooms and parking space was begun in 1985. The physical plant now consists of a half-block of property and the auditorium, which can be enlarged as needed, will comfortably seat about 200.
The church here has always been served by faithful gospel preachers, and has never suffered a division. We have always been evangelistic and benevolent in our outlook, and have financially supported many good works, locally and in far-flung places. We have assisted in the training of preachers and the support of college students.
